miguel löhmann is a visual storyteller, photographer, multimedia content creator and journalist based in Leipzig, Germany.

miguel started working as a freelance photographer and filmmaker in 2018 and holds a undergraduate degree (BA) in mass media and communication science since 2021.

In addition to professional training and several years of professional experience, miguel also participated in the ten-month ‘TP2 – Talent Pool’ programme for young filmmakers in eastern Germany. Due to miguel’s engagement around climate justice, miguel began an postgraduate programme (MA) European Master in Global Studies in 2023. Travelling for professional or research reasons has taken miguel to a variety of places in Europe, the Americas (mostly Central and South America), as well as East and West Africa.

In motion productions, miguel mainly works in the camera and light departments, but also has experience in writing, editing and directing. miguel has worked on industry commercials and TV documentaries as a gaffer, camera operator and director of photography.

In still photography, miguel specialises in portraits, fashion and photojournalism. Some of miguel’s portrait work was eventually published on ZEIT Online in 2020.

As an educator, miguel has experience in facilitating classes and workshops on visual storytelling and technical camera work.

miguel’s work focuses particularly on power-critical and intersectional productions, which create spaces where people experiencing marginalisation can feel at ease. This process starts with reflecting on one’s own social position and adapting production conditions. It involves proactively dismantling discriminatory patterns and creating empowering and sensitive spaces based on the needs of the most vulnerable people in the production.

In miguels leisure time, miguel enjoys reading, spending relaxing days near the water or mountains, and participating in sports such as climbing and free diving.
